During the treatment of native cellulose fibres with concentrated alkaline solutions, the fibres swell up, whereby the dye absorption of the fibres is significantly increased. If the fibre is simultaneously stretched during the causticising treatment a silky gloss is produced (mercerisation).

CHT wetting agents for mercerisation or causticising treatment cause a very fast and even penetration of the alkaline solutions right to the fibre core.
